Deal will see equipment for 20 trains delivered to Dongguan, China,, carrying a top speed of 120-km/h
Berlin, Germany—Bombardier Transportation has been awarded a $16-million contract for rapid transit train propulsion equipment in China.
The deal, entered in partnership with New United Group, will see Bombardier supply its MITRAC propulsion and control equipment for 20 six-car metro trains.
The new trains will be delivered by CSR Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock Co., Ltd., to Dongguan Rail Transit Co., Ltd., for the Dongguan Rapid Railway R2 Line in Guangdong Province in southern China.
The project marks the first application of MITRAC propulsion and control equipment in a Chinese metro system, with an operational speed of 120-km/h.
With a total length of 37-kilometres, the R2 Line is the first metro line in the City of Dongguan and is expected to go into service by 2015.
The total value of the deal is $28-million, with Bombardier receiving more than half the contract value at $16-million.
Equipment will be delivered from Bombardier Transportation’s production facilities in Vasteras, Sweden, and Changzhou, China.
