The Institute of Food Technologists Annual Meeting + Food Expo took place alongside Process Expo in Chicago, Ill. from July 17 to 20.

Food in Canada was at both shows where more than 1,000 exhibiting companies highlighted or launched myriad products.

If you missed Process Expo, here’s a roundup of just a few of the products we saw.

Urschel

Urschel highlighted its M6 Dicer, a dicer, strip cutter and shredder.

The system features all sheet metal access panels, integrated electrical enclosure, wide range of cuts available through different cutting/shredding set-ups, a maximum infeed thickness up to 25.4 mm and stainless-steel design.

Marel

Marel launched its Townsend RevoPortioner, which can make perfectly portioned products at low pressure.

The system can handle all meat masses and with its portioning drum, which is quick and easy to change over, users can make practically any shape.

The system can also preserve texture and structure.

Petro-Canada Lubricants

Petro-Canada launched the Purity FG2 with Microl Max, an advanced food grade lubricant formulated to deliver excellent performance and food grade purity.

It contains an antimicrobial preservative and offers excellent resistance to lubricant breakdown and better protects gears, bearings and equipment.

Sani-Matic

Sani-Matic launched its Trustwater AQ Series ECA Generator, a cost-effective, efficient, non-toxic replacement for traditional chemical processes.

The patented system can offer a return on investment between six and 18 months.

The company also highlighted its Sani-Cab Washers that now have drying capabilities.

Reiser

Reiser highlighted its processing and packaging equipment including Vemag portioning, depositing and extrusion; Holac dicers and cubers; Fomaco injectors; AMFEC massagers and tumblers; and Seydelmann cutters and grinders.

Packaging equipment included the Ross MAP tray sealers; Repak form/fill/seal machines; and Supervac vacuum packaging machines.

Handtmann

Handtmann unveiled the High Vacuum Fillers Deli Series line.

Each model in the series is designed for a variety of processing applications, ranging from ham to mortadella to cooked sausage to dry sausage.

The company also displayed its ConPro systems, which combine the edible Ruitenberg VegaCasing and the flexibility of Handtmann technology.

Multivac

Multivac highlighted the high-speed Multivac R245 thermoformer complete with vision system, automated handling, inline printing and labelling.

Multivac also featured the new inline T700 tray sealer, which has a capacity of up to 60 trays per minute.

Also on display was the new B310 belted vacuum chamber system with a revolutionary swinging lid for easy access, package size adjustment, maintenance and cleaning.

BASF

Ingersoll Rand

The company highlighted its EMS Environment Management System Surface and Air Sanitation Technology.

The company says EMS increases the shelf life of perishable products, reduces food safety risks, minimizes cross contamination and reduces odours within a defined refrigerated space.

The EMS technology transforms ambient air into reactive oxygen species that eliminate bacteria, viruses and molds in the air and on surfaces. This process operates continuously 24/7/365, is 100% organic and is not harmful to perishable products or employees that work in the treated area.

Baader

The company highlighted its Baader 1502 AccuFeed, which has had an upgrade that allows the machine to pick up frozen as well as fresh product.
