Ontario company eyes significant export growth, plans to add 140 jobs
ST. THOMAS, Ont.—An Ontario manufacturer that makes vinyl windows and doors for commercial and residential customers in the Canadian and American markets is kick-starting a major expansion project.
North Star Windows & Doors, located south of London in St. Thomas, Ont., plans to invest $10 million in a plant expansion and new equipment. With the help of a $1.2 million conditional grant from the Ontario government, the project will come close to doubling the company’s workforce.
“The investment we’re announcing today will help us purchase innovative manufacturing equipment and also give us the extra manufacturing space we need to meet growing demand, and expand our business both locally and internationally,” Ron Cauchi, the company’s CEO, said.
Currently shipping about $3 million worth of merchandise abroad, the company aims to boost that figure by two-thirds—to more than $5 million by the end of project. The expansion will create 140 news jobs while retaining just short of 200 existing positions at the plant.
North Star plans to complete the project by the end of 2019.
