Canadian Solar moves forward with 63 MW solar farm in central Mexico

Company expects to complete work on new plant by September 2018
GUELPH, Ont.—Canadian Solar Inc. has inked a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Mexican state-owned utility, Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), for a solar project awarded earlier this year under the country’s First Long-Term Electricity Auction.
The Guelph, Ont.-based company will build the 63 megawatt project in the city of Aguascalientes, Mexico, located northeast of Guadalajara in central Mexico.
“We will continue to leverage our global project development and execution capability to continue to expand our global late stage solar project pipeline to meet the growing demand of clean solar energy in Mexico and around the world,” Shawn Qu, the company’s chairman and CEO, said.
Under the agreement, the company will sell the plant’s entire output to the CFE for a 15-year period.
Canadian Solar expects to bring the new plant online by September 2018.
