Bus maker awarded contract for 70 of its 60-foot diesel-electric heavy-duty transit buses.
WINNIPEG, Man.—The Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority has awarded bus manufacturer New Flyer Industries Inc. a contract to build 70 Xcelsior diesel-electric hybrid 60-foot articulated heavy-duty buses.
The 3 year contract, with 2 years of renewable options, contains a firm order for 10 buses with options for an additional 60 buses. Nashville MTA is a new customer for New Flyer and has an active fleet of approximately 150 heavy-duty transit buses.
Financial details of the deal have not been released.
New Flyer is expected to start production on the 10 buses in the first quarter of 2013, and will be manufactured and assembled at the company’s St. Cloud, Minn. Plant. The buses are expected to be delivered by May 2013.
New Flyer is a manufacturer of heavy-duty transit buses in the US and Canada. The company, which employs more than 2,000 people, has three manufacturing facilities in St. Cloud, Minn., Crookston, Minn., and Winnipeg, Man.
