Workers at Industrial services firm Envirosystems Inc., were transferring a container between trucks when they "noticed a vapour being released"

DEBERT, N.S.—An industrial area outside Truro, N.S., was evacuated Thursday after workers spotted a “chemical reaction” inside a waste container.

Jeff Fraser, vice-president of Envirosystems, Inc., say staff were transferring the container between trucks at the company’s facility in Debert, N.S., at about 10:30 a.m. when they “noticed a vapour being released.”

He says they immediately left the trailer and called 911.

The RCMP say they contained the area while multiple fire departments and hazmat units dealt with the chemical spill.

Fraser says no one was injured and the vapour release eventually stopped.

He says they don’t yet know what the material is, but said it appears only one substance was involved and there was no danger of explosion.
