LÉVIS, QC: Creaform, a developer and manufacturer of handheld, self-positioning and portable laser scanners has recently released its UNIscan. The unit uses a class II laser and has 0.1-mm z-axis resolution. Its accuracy of up to 80 microns and 30-cm depth-of-field make it ideal for a number of applications.

The unit comes with VxScan Express, a version of Creaform's proprietary data acquisition software.

It outputs files in .dae, .fbx, .ma, .obj, .ply, .stl, .txt, .wrl, .x3d, .x3dz, or.zpr formats.

"Creaform has been striving to democratize and promote the use of 3D scanning in numerous industrial, multimedia and medical applications," said Charles Mony, president of Creaform. "We are really happy to open 3D scanning to a wider community by simplifying it, without giving up on the performance, quality, concepts and technology."

The UNIscan's range of applications and target industries include reverse engineering, packaging design, rapid prototyping, design engineering, multimedia content creation and 3D archiving.

Creaform is a 3D digital solutions company with offices in Canada, the US, France, China and Japan.
