Will build Chaudiere Falls generating station after signing 40-year power purchase deal with OPA

OTTAWA—Hydro Ottawa plans to boost the capacity of its Chaudiere Falls hydroelectric facility by 29 megawatts after signing a 40-year power purchase deal with the Ontario Power Authority (OPA).

According to Hydro Ottawa, its Energy Ottawa Inc. subsidiary will build a new hydroelectric generating station at its Chaudiere Falls facility on the Ottawa River, boosting its hydroelectric capacity to 58 megawatts.

The utility said the new 29-megawatt station will generate enough clean energy to power 20,000 homes a year.

It plans to start construction in 2015, which will create 150 jobs, according to Hydro Ottawa.
