SDTC launches new round of funding for cleantech innovation

SD Tech Fund aimed at helping entrepreneurs commercialize their cleantech technology
OTTAWA—A not-for-profit foundation funded by the federal government has launched a new round of funding initiative aimed at identified the next wave of cleantech innovators in Canada.
Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) has launched the 25th round of its SD Tech Fund, a financing program that looks to help support entrepreneurs commercialize their cleantech technology.
The funding is available to technology that mitigates the environmental impact of resource development, provides emissions reduction and increased energy efficiency in the transportation sector, boosts energy efficiency in buildings and industrial processes, enables clean energy production and boosts the yields and drought resistance of Canadian agricultural crops.
“Cleantech is the exciting nexus of making the most of economic opportunity and embracing environmental responsibility, providing Canadian industry with the tools needed to succeed domestically and globally,” SDTC president and CEO Vicky Sharpe said in a statement.
“The SD Tech Fund is key to supporting cleantech innovations, launching them onto the world stage where Canada can participate in the burgeoning cleantech market, valued at $1-trillion today.”
The SDTC portfolio is currently comprised of 246 clean technology projects with a total value of $2.2-billion, of which over $1.6-billion is leveraged primarily from the private-sector.
Applications can be submitted through April 16.
